Senior Administrator - MSSQL Database

Angie’s List is seeking a MSSQL Database Administrator, responsible for ensuring the MSSQL Servers and Databases are contributing to our availability, quality, and speed of innovation.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitors and maintain production level database environments.

  • Identifies and optimizes poorly performing stored procedures and in-line SQL code.

  • Maintains disaster recovery plans as it pertains to the production database environment.

  • Trains and mentors other personnel on best practices.

  • Additional responsibilities as assigned.

Experience:

  • College degree or demonstrable experience working in a technical production environment.
  • Experience working with production MSSQL environments.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Development Life-Cycle processes and procedures.

  • Knowledge in the maintenance planning on production systems and performance tuning.

  • Knowledge of data replication, and, synchronization with external systems.

  • Knowledge of forecasting and growth plans as it pertains to hardware.

  • Technical skills including but not limited to: SQL, T-SQL, MS Office suite, Windows operating systems. Installation and configuration of Microsoft SQL Server in a clustered environment.

  • Experience configuring HADR SQL environments preferred.

  • AWS experience strongly preferred.

  • Experience working in DevOps environment preferred.

  • Ability to script repeatable process.

  • MySQL experience and/or desire to learn MySQL preferred.

  • Skills in coordinating activities, active listening, and monitoring performance.

  • Skills in complex problem solving, judgment, critical/analytical thinking, logic/reasoning, and decision making.

  • Skills in analysis and maintenance planning on production systems.

  • Ability to communicate effectively via multiple channels (verbal, written, etc) with technical and non-technical staff.

  • Ability to be versatile and handle multiple projects and re-prioritizations.

  • Familiarity with Sarbanes Oxley and other security practices.

  • Ability in the design and implementation of back-up plans as well as disaster recovery including planning & testing.

  • Ability to work with outside vendors and individuals in a professional manner.

  • Must be a team player and have the ability to work well in corss functional teams

Applicants without documented work experience will be considered, but be prepared to demonstrate your ability to perform needed tasks. This position will require participation in a 24/7 on call rotation.  Occasionally, this position will require more than 40 hours of work per week including evenings, nights, and weekends as needed.
